ŸSEASONSŸ

@Emei Mountain can be visited all year round, but the seasons do vary in temperature and scenery. In Winter, Emei Mountain will be very cold with temperatures dropping below zero between November and March. You will see snow covering the hillsides as you are trekking up the mountain. During the summer months, it will be quite hot and humid while trekking up Mount Emei. If you are going to Emei Shan during the summer or spring you will see lush and green foliage, and at the Summit you will receive a welcome rest from the heat.

Please Note: The weather at the top of MountEmei is significantly different than at the bottom of the mountain. Please be sure to take warm clothes with you at all times throughout the year.

Emei Mountain

Known throughout China as gBeauty Under Heavenh, Emei Shan is located 150 kmfs South West of Chengdu, and is one of Chinafs 4 Sacred Buddhist Mountains. Occupying 300 sq kmfs, Emei Shan consists of 3 mountains - Dafe, Erfe, and Sanfe, with many peaks covered by lush thick forests, green bamboo, and wild monkeys.

Emei Shan once had over 100 Monasteries and Temples from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220AD), but now only around 20 active Temples are spread out over the 4 scenic areas - WannianTemple, Qingyin Pavillion, BaoguoTemple, and the Golden Summit.

It is believed that the first monk went to Emei Mountain as early as AD100. In the past, Buddhist devotees used to throw themselves off the mountain into a rocky platform resembling Buddhafs outstretched palm, as a show of faith, after not living a life of abstinence or self-sacrifice.
